Kevin Elliott, B.Sc, MC, RP

It is my goal to provide a safe, non-judgmental space for you to share your concerns and interact in a therapeutic relationship. Through active listening and unconditional positive regard, I strive to understand your unique perspective and work collaboratively with you to facilitate your own personal growth.

I earned a Masters degree in Counselling Psychology at the University of Calgary after completing a Bachelor of Science Honours Degree in Psychology from the University of Guelph. I am a member of the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario and have been working in the field of counselling and psychotherapy since 2013. Since graduating, I have further developed my training in psychotherapy by attending workshops on therapeutic techniques such as mindfulness-based strategies, single session therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT). I am also trained in Image Transformation Therapy (ImTT), a gentle and unique approach that utilizes visualization and breathing to release painful and stressful emotions and thoughts.

Throughout my life I have been interested in music and movies. Often when I am having difficulty describing an an experience or emotion, I draw from lyrics or quotes to deepen understanding. I have always been passionate about comedy and outside of psychotherapy I belong to an improv comedy troupe where I get to perform as well as teach. Improv cultivates creativity and building something with your scene partner(s) through active listening and support. This strengthens my ability to bring the same level of creativity into the counselling room. And it helps when exploring different interpersonal dynamics.

Therapy is an opportunity for clients to explore and integrate their life experiences in order to move towards their personal and interpersonal goals. As a therapist it is my goal to not only to understand what a client has experienced, but also to understand how they are experiencing it. This requires a present and open acceptance of what is unfolding in the moment of interaction. When an individual can be heard and understood on the cognitive, emotional and somatic level, then sometimes spontaneous integration can occur. In other cases, it requires additional guidance and support to facilitate a more genuine experience of what’s gone on in ones life.
