“You find peace not by rearranging the circumstances of your life, but realizing who you are at the deepest level.”
— Eckhart Tolle
Natasha Kukolj, BSW, MSW, RSW
I am a clinical social worker residing in the city of London, Ontario. My life journey began in what is today considered "Former Yugoslavia". I immigrated to Canada at the early age of eleven, shortly after escaping the 1990’s civil war of the Balkans. Such experience at a very tender age altered my reality; requiring me to mature well beyond my years. Many more experiences followed. It wasn’t long before these very experiences cultivated a great passion for the field of Social Work.
My formal educational career includes attending both Fanshawe College and Western University, where I obtained both Bachelor and Master Degree in Social Work. Since, I have worked with and supported individuals facing issues such as, but not limited to, anxiety, depression, relationships, grief, sexuality, gender identity, abuse, violence and trauma; providing both long-term and brief, change-oriented therapy.
What happens in therapy:
I believe 'magic' can happen in therapy, but therapy in of itself isn’t magic. For the magic to unfold, a therapeutic bond, a trusting relationship must exist between the therapist and the client.
Recognizing we live in a fast paced society, often too fast not allowing us to process our thoughts; to think about what we are thinking about, I put great emphasis on creating an environment that will allow one to silence the outside world, the internalized voices within, and to hear their own wisdom instead. I believe each person holds the capacity to create and live a fulfilling life, and strive to help awaken this potential in those I work with, while unpacking and repacking old, recent or current experiences.
Goals for therapy:
I believe you, as the client, drive the therapeutic process; thus set the goals for therapy - after all, this is about you. My role is to help you identify what those goals might be, and to help you assess and break down the barriers keeping you from the desired outcome.
As your therapist, I hope to provide you with constructive feedback in non-demeaning ways, and to guide you towards the triangle of awareness; mental, emotional, physical and behavioural. Through this raised awareness, together, we can build on your strengths. It is my hope through our work together you will (re)discover who you truly are, and/or create/reinvent who you want to be!
Approach to Therapy:
I practice therapy primarily using the psychodynamic perspective and believe that many of the challenges we experience in our adult years stem from our early years and/or unresolved conflicts. I am also experienced in other theoretical approaches including cognitive behavioural therapy, solution focused therapy, feminist perspectives, family systems theory and narrative therapy.
